That’s my revelation of the day.
I’m inclined towards trashy themes that are a little too cute and whimsical (for my age, which is a perpetual 18 by the way), but Wordpress is a little too geeky and serious, which makes it attract the well, more geeky and serious people. Not a bad thing.
But. It means the themes designed are by those people for those people. I.e. not me. I realise that as much as the designers attempt to be funky, it pretty much ends up very… square (literally).
There aren’t enough young girls who like kitties, pink and random things like I dunno, buttons, that make themes on Wordpress.
Maybe it’s a restriction of the platform itself, and not the theme designers’ fault… I dunnoooo.
I want a theme like this. But I can’t.
P/S. I know my current theme isn’t exactly very serious, but it’s about the only one I can find. …And variety is the spice of life, baby.

Who says so?! This is very much possible in WordPress!

And my new blog theme is going to be based on the illustrated concept too.

It is absolutely possible to develop a theme based on the design concept you’re showing. Maybe most of the themes being developed (free or commercial) must attract a broad audience and that leads to them being developed in a certain neutral position. However, check one site I made some time ago for my wife’s children clothing

BTW, my point is not that it’s possible, but that not enough designers are doing such themes because there isn’t enough demand because of the demographic using wordpress

Hi Wendy, thanks for your kind words. I agree, such themes are only created when they are specifically commisioned. Maybe, and just maybe, it’s not a bad thing, since such sites have a strong identity. For instance, I think I can inmediately recognize your site by the scotch background and the illustration on top, and that’s good.

I just found this entry while googling “cute Wordpress themes”. And only one site which offered the kind of thing I’m looking for (the same one your theme came from, I saw it just a minute ago XD) Coincidence?
I’ve just spent 2 days looking for a theme I really liked, and only just found one, on the Scribble Scratch website. I’ll be installing it tomorrow XD I’ve been so tempted to attempt my own more whimsical theme(s) after this experience. It’s the first time I’ve used WP for a personal blog rather than a shared and more neutral one. Most of my friends are on Blogger though, it seems. Maybe you’re right and it *is* a demographic thing (I’m 20 and my friends are teens and 20-somethings).
Anyway, sorry this was so rambly. Just wanted to add my two cents
