Simply Jean is really simple.
Go read it if you’re completely clueless.
You know, a part of me wants to sympathize with her for all the negative attention she’s been getting. It’s gotta be hard for anyone to go through all that name calling.
Yet, another part of me (a bigger part, I must add) wants to give her good konk on the head, because simply, Jean did ask for it. I don’t mean the insults, but rather, the publicity. She wanted the issue to get some attention, no? Mission accomplished, I suppose.
Which controversy hasn’t attracted the vicious Internet flamers? Think Dawn Yang (who is said to average around 20 approved comments on her blog entries because the rest are insults), Xiaxue (’nuff said), and Shadowfox. I guess Jean and everyone defending her should probably realise that it’s impossible to curb the insults, given the scale of the event. News gets old fast. All we can do is wait.
I wish Jean made some wiser choices, but heh, I guess she’s really just Simply Jean after all. I am not trying to be (completely) evil here, but gawd, it is almost impossible to sympathize with her, with all that I’ve read.
I don’t see how anyone could accept a “gift” of $48,000 from a friend, even if he really wanted to give it to you. Not paiseh meh? I don’t see why anyone would ask a guy that has feelings for her to go overseas with her alone to “save on airfares”. Not misleading meh?
We also have to note that she did approve interviews from all those papers. She played a major role in why things escalated to this level.
She really could have handled things a lot better, but I guess some things are only obvious on hindsight. Sigh, the displays of naivety (both from Jean and John) have brought facepalming to a whole new level.

I agree with Kris, no sides can claim to be right, no sides can claim the moral high ground. Both parties have their own faults and they know the truth themselves. Simply Jean may be simple, it may be just us that feel the money is a big deal, but she may be not. We don’t know, and we never will know. But I guess what we can do now is just let things quieten down, and not take sides. I’ve seen some blogs “profiteering” from the traffic boost, and at least one Pingster is repeatedly posting posts on Jean and even putting up the hurtful comments he saw from forums. I think that is despicable to make the whole thing sound like a funny joke. No matter what, I feel that we should just leave them alone. Hopefully there is no flame war.

The fact of the matter is, we must NEVER condone this kind of behavior in anyway. We must never even say that she should have known better because even if someone does something like that, Molest can NEVER be justified, and by excusing it in this way, one undermines any justification for protecting women’s rights.
Its akin to saying a woman deserves to be raped because she exposes her skin. *an argument used by extremist islamists*.
Yes! Jean should have known better, but even more so the son of a duck MUST have known better.

I don’t know, will deciding who’s right or who’s wrong actually help things? or more importantly, will it reduce the violation she feels?
I’m disappointed and appalled at the amt of senseless name-calling that ensued, regardless of where, virtually or in reality, it occurred. There’s a reason why victims keep these kind of things to themselves. We can see the answers in the wave of comments on the issue. If one day a girl says that she was actually raped, you know what some ppl will say? They’ll say she deserves it.
To a large extent, it isn’t even over the issue of name calling I’m upset over. It’s how much “hate” words there is over her as a person and not over her actions. Support offered seems so little, so difficult to give, compared to blaming which is so much easier.
